Calling a Professional When Your DIY Fails

plumbersinportsmouth Uncategorized

Do-it-yourself (DIY) projects are fun to do. The things to fix inside and outside of the house are simply endless. However, not all these are meant for you to handle. Some repairs at home can only be handled by professionals. With their experience and skills, they can get the job done right away compared to what you can do that would take hours to fix. Professional handymen are better skilled, and they do it with efficiency. You can vouch for the safety of their work.

Most DIY projects rise into the occasion after a storm or snow. Damages in your home can make a lot of mess, and fixing them by your own is fulfilling. But when things get out of hand, it’s time to call the legitimate plumbing experts.

Certain limitations will prevent you from handling heavier tasks, such as climbing the roof and changing the gutters, repairing the boiler, rewiring few cables for failed smoke and fire alarms, or broken sewage pipes.  As there are various DIY jobs inside the home, in this article, we focus on one of the most common problems every homeowner encounter—plumbing.

YouTube tutorials are only for inspiration. But if you notice, the one doing the demo in the video is a professional. Failing to keep up with the steps will do you worse than fix the problem. Below are DIY plumbing fails that need professional backup. Know when it’s time to call your pros.

Boiler fails and repair

Boilers are crucial in delivering hot water in all your daily tasks, from washing dishes, taking a bath, laundry, to cooking. Perhaps you won’t bear the cold shower, or if it fails in the middle of your shower, you couldn’t imagine the frustration on your face.

Fixing the boiler may seem to be an easy job, but when you “actually’ fix the problem, you could not even trace the root cause, which could be mind-boggling and would cause you to lose your patience. Boilers, especially the old ones, have connections which could be complicated to fix. Call your plumber for these types of problems since they understand better if a boiler will ever function again or if it needs replacement. Band-aid solution is not often a solution but could cause more issues, such as fire, if the patches made with old and new connections may not blend well.

Toilet installation

Make no room for mistake if you insist on installing a new toilet. It may seem easy to tackle, but in reality, toilet installation is a very complex task. It could be a real mess if you miss any slight step, and when you finish up not noticing the flaw, you could do further damage on the newly installed parts, and flooding will creep in the house.

Flooding

You wake up one morning with standing water on your entire basement. It is easy to suspect that the cause of the flooding is a busted pipe, for there is no other way the water could go out unless the faucet is left turned on overnight. For times like these, your instinct is to look for the broken point of the pipe; but while the water rises, it’s more challenging to fix it unless you turn off the valve. Worse is if the valve itself is broken.

Experienced plumbers can do better. Call your trusted plumber connected to a company with a 24-hour emergency call out. This way, you can be assured that the flooding in your home could be fixed right away before it reaches the first floor and causes damage to furniture and appliances. Also, standing water could result in mold buildup on the walls and floors.

Clogged pipe

A clogged pipe sounds an easy DIY. Over the sink when the water keeps standing there or flows down very slowly, it is easy to suspect that there are minor clogs in the drain and a simple declogging solution will do the trick. However, most homeowners do not realise that the clog could be caused by a problem more rooted in the p-trap. DIY drains do not always solve the problem, so trust your plumber on this one.
